Schumacher Magazine
Edition #2
Soil, Soul, Society
Soil, Soul, Society is the second edition of Schumacher Magazine, a beautifully designed, limited-run 120-page print edition created to celebrate Satish Kumar’s 90th birthday and honour the living legacy of his work. Inspired by Satish’s enduring trinity of soil, soul and society, the issue explores our relationships with the living world, our inner lives and the communities and cultures we create, through essays, art and storytelling from Nagaland to Lebanon, Kenya to Mexico, Queensland to Devon. This special edition is a celebration of the ideas, people and projects carrying the Schumacher spirit forward around the world.

Soil, Soul, Society, in celebration of Satish Kumar's ninetieth.
Soil is the ground beneath our feet, ecology and the living web we share with our more-than-human relations. Soul is our inner life, spirituality, ethics, beauty, and contemplation. Society is the shared life, the cultures, economies and communities through Satish’s philosophies ripple out into the world. Satish has nurtured these as a special trinity for over 60 years, and this is what has inspired the structure of our latest issue.

we are the storytellers
of a future that is free
we are the future weavers
unravelling from me to we
we are the future troubadours
singing songs of emergence
we are the future guardians
of heart-led intelligence
we are the future midwives
birthing beauty for the whole
we are the future magi
spell casting from our restless souls
we are the future blacksmiths
hammering shields and spears
we are the future warriors
defending life and facing fears
we are the future growers
tending to our weeds
we are the future harvest
ripening fruit of forgotten seeds
we are the future drummers
keeping time with love
we are the future ancestors
of beings bright as stars
we are the future sailors
on rising future seas
we are the future elders
what will be our legacy?
